Reloc: DIY #2 :) :)

Product junkie. Is that what I heard you say?  : 0)

Okay, I could not stand the fuzz so I did a reloc on my own today. I really was not on the hair flex this week so I did not do all the things I usually do to maintain my hair/style. I still have not committed to a shampoo  or any one brand. Although, I visited JENN's in the new Lantern's Mall on Thursday. In there is awesome. And the ladies are helpful. I did see a product which caught my attention. It is Nature's Gate Henna Shampoo.  This company has a wide range of products so give their website a look up: Nature's Gate

Nola recommended I try Doo Gro Anti-itch growth oil to help with the burning and itching. Unfortunately, did not find any today. Will check some other places during the week. I really wanted to try the Elasta QP Conditioning Glaze (recommended by fellow loc'er Dionne). I could only find the extra large; which I did not buy just in case I had to toss it. What I did buy and tried was Organic Root Stimulator's Lock and Twist Gel.

The Buzz about petroleum and mineral oil...Take 1

So, one thing for sure is that whether your hair is loc'd or naturally kinky and healthy I believe we need to moisturize it. Otherwise my hair becomes dull and brittle.   Let me add my-

DISCLAIMER: I'm not some authority so please, don't quote me.

I do have questions though and one such relates to the use of petrolatum and mineral oil in our daily hairdress conditioners. I am more aware now that my hair is natural and going thru the process of locking of some of these concerns. So, I spend more time now reading hair product labels!

The resounding result though is: Stick to products which contain as many natural and essential oils as much as you can. I have realised that from talking to my friends and from just reading up on the net. And, it is one thing my loctitian did let me know when I first began.

But why not do the heavy greases like we did when we were growing up?  Simple: 'cos we know a bit better now and I'm not knocking anyone's products, we are all free to choose.

PETROLEUM & MINERAL OIL
IN LAYMAN'S TERMS: Petroleum is a substance used widely in the cosmetics industry, made for our skin and included in some hair greases, pomades and daily conditioning hairdress. It is a lubricant. Mineral oil is a derivative of petroleum and is also a lubricant.

First palm roll - nothing beats a try

Ok, so I've been twiddling with my locs anyways on my own, seeing how to palm roll them. So Thursday night, I tried a 'ting or two. But, first I just cleaned my scalp. Been two weeks since I got my hair washed etc. So, this was just for me to see what I could do on my own. I used Loc Gel by Jamaican Mango and Lime.
Ta-da!

Not too bad for a '3 days after' pic
