Loc Accessories ~ I am at it again

I made an interesting purchase today. It is the most interesting and intricate loc coil I have ever seen. This gem comes from the hands of Barbadian glass blower, Jamal Ifill of Crystal Forms. I honestly cannot find the words to describe how hyped I was about it. I saw it first on the designers' Facebook Fan page - Crystal Forms Hair B's, in a white colour. But, white just would not do for me. So I had requested it in burnt orange. From the get go I was warned that given it's detail, it might not look exactly like the original and it would take some time. So, a week and a half later after an initial try, I got my fancy glass loc coil:

Today, as I went to collect the coil, Jamal made me the lilac w/green dots coil and; the brown, caramel and teal barrel. This was after he made/repaired the exotic blue coil. All in under an hour!

Loc coils: Lilac w/green dots and exotic blue. The blue actually
began a solid blue but ended up looking like this. Amazing!

Loc barrel. The brown serves as the base colour.
It is has a caramel swirl and little teal dots.

The final picture is of my the set of coils from before. I had actually given 2 away and another one broke some months ago, otherwise there would have been more.

In the final picture, you can see the brown coil looks alot like a snake's skin. The red ribbon symbol of the fight against HIV/AIDS. Then, my love knot and disco ball. In Barbados, these glass loc pieces retail for $8/ea. The orange coil is slightly more expensive.

I have to give this young man his props!

Class is class!

Business Feature ~ A Passion for Glass: CRYSTAL FORMS

Loc'd Business Entrepreneur

In one word: AMAZING! That sums up the moment as I watched Jamal Ifill create a stunning piece of art from glass. I came to his workshop that day to purchase a loc bead. He is the one many women go to for these beautiful hair accessories. The one and same gentleman whose work some of you on Naturaleza commented on when I showcased some new loc hardware a couple months back. When I got there he was in the midst of preparing a new piece and invited me to watch him complete his creation. Needless to say, I was intrigued by what he was doing but equally taken back by his kind invitation. Jamal, is the managing director of Crystal Forms, a one in a million kind of enterprise here on the island of Barbados.

Seeing persons being involved in leather craft, food and clothing manufacturing on the island is common here. But, glass blowing? For me, this was new. Interestingly, my visit there opened my eyes to so much more. Crystal Forms is more than glass accessories which adorn our hair. Crystal Forms produces an exceptional selection of high quality craft.

I think...

I'm shrinking.
I mean, I cannot be sure...but...it just looks and feels that way. As Ledisi sings: "I'm goin' through changes!"

Part two, Month 5

Here are some extra photos. Wish the quality was a bit better.
However, I am really happy with what I'm seeing, feeling not just about my hair but...ME! Lots of love to all of you who check my blog out. It means so much to me. Extra love to my MLD girls, DK, Faye, and Nola, my loctitian.

Month 5...You fancy huh!

Month 5 has rolled around...slowly but surely.   Yeah, me!

I have really noticed the growth and the budding continues, too! More of them have definitely gotten firmer, and more difficult to unravel. I still don't like the puffiness. But, I guess that is all in the process.

So, for my 5th month, I treated myself to some hardware :0)
Have a look!

Local inspiration!

Have a look at some local loc styles. Thanks, ladies. And, enjoy!

Dionne, beautiful smile as usual. Here, rocking a new updo.

Nancy's nubian knots. Smile!
Side view of knots
Beautiful hair beads and knots. When the knots are taken down, Nancy's hair will a curly spiral look.

Lovely blue bead stands out! Shows the locs twisted and over to the side. With Dionne's style, this pin-up will leave her hair with a crinkled look; similar to the one we showcased in the post "A Loc-star: Dionne."

Pressing on... :) Isn't it Month 4, already!?

Loc update. So, been to get a quick re-loc. Nola is pleased with my progress and the budding that is going on. So am I   :o)
