Loc Journal ~ Dread rant

I wish they would seal!

Nov 2 2010 - 'BC' and locs installed
And, now...

That's right! When will they be firm? True, everyone says they are growing and looking lovely. Thanks, guys and gals! But the fuzziness, the puffiness, the occasional dryness and lack of shine. These things are really on my mind, more like my nerves. Recently, I have been wondering if I should have started my locs using the comb coils method. Not with two-strand twists.

The road to beautiful, healthy locs takes patience. I remind myself.

And, yes, along the way frustration might set in. Forbearance wears thin. I mean, I'm still not accustomed to handling my hair...MY NATURAL HAIR.  This journey is still new for me. It's been less than a year since doing my 'BC' and having locked my hair.

Then, another issue for me is finding the right shampoo and conditioner to use. And, if that was not enough...the infamous question: How often should I let my locs go without a wash? A re-loc? 4 weeks? 7? 8?

Change takes discipline. Requires fortitude, perseverance.

Hmmm...what does a loc'd sista do?

She's going to see it thru!

  2. Your locs do look nice and they have grown! I am at 8 months and are STILL very frizzy and get super puffy after they see water/humidity. Guess we just have to hang in there!

  3. Hey, chica! How do you deal with it though? What do you tell yourself? I know I'll push through this period of frustration...there are people like you out there who are an inspiration to me. Plus, I'm so NOT about relaxing my hair. That right now is a no no!
Oh and I'm so happy for you! Congrats, again!

  4. I remember what that process was like. I had locs for 5 years. I washed them once each month. It took quite awhile before they fully locked. I started mine from comb coils. It is so frustrating in the beginning, but it will be worth it later. I love how thick yours are. They look like they are off to a great start.

  5. Thanks, L.
Question though: Do you remember what moisturizers/oils or shampoos you had used back then? Want to see what there is I could try. Let me know.

  6. I can tell you; locs will loc when they want. I started with the comb coils and they are still not sealed (as you saw from my last post). Patience is definitely the theme of this journey! Your locs are looking good though!
