The Buzz ~ Black Walnut

Known for its medicinal properties, the black walnut is a rich source of magnesium, potassium and Omega-3 fatty acids. Having a handful of walnuts a day is said to improve heart health and reduce the likelihood of strokes.

The powder which is made using the hull (the rough outer shell of the nut) is rich in iodine. The black walnut has also been recommended to aid in relieving constipation, tapeworm, acne, psoriasis, gout and glandular irregularities.

If you don't wish to use the walnut plain, why not add it to a tasty salad or maybe to your yogurt? Or, even include it in the list of ingredients in your favourite bread recipe. There are many ideas and options to choose from.

Given all these benefits, wouldn't it be wise to add walnuts to our diets?

If you want to know more about Omega-3 Fatty Acids, take a look at this very informational series with my friend and Registered Dietitian, Kareen.
