Loc-do of the week

I'm really excited about this particular style! The style is about 5 days old; but, never mind that! :o)

This is the first time that I have gotten my locs done in what my loctitian calls a 'big girl' style. If you look through the blog, my styles have mostly been braided type styles. And, I have been really hoping that I could try something different. So, this week, I got my locs washed and redone, and, this is what I came away with!
I am also elated as Kelly (my loctitian) and Rachelle (her assistant), both commented on how hard my locs were. That made me smile even broader as I have been noticing that, too. I really like that fact. Having read so much on the locking process, expectations and loc growth, I must reiterate the individuality of everyone's loc journey.

October 2 will be 1 month shy of my First Loc Birthday. And, it is only now that complete firmness is evident. You can actually feel and see the progress. Yes, there is still fuzziness from loose strands of hair which have yet to become meshed, but, even then I understand that not every single strand will do that. And, depending on your preference, de-fuzzing might be a route to consider. Some people de-fuzz once a year, every couple washes or what have you. It's a matter of choice.

Just last month I noticed how the ends/tips were finally sealed and taking their own shape. You have really got to stay patient and let them do their own thing.

My maintenance routine continues to be:
  • Wash and reloc every 2 - 4 weeks
  • Shampoo with Shea Moisture (if I forget to bring it with me to the salon I use what Kelly has but this is rare)
  • Lately I have reloc'd with Tropical Roots Locking Gel from Bronner Bros
  • Oil with BB's Stimulating Growth Oil
  • Apply 2x daily Dr Miracle's Temple and Nape Gro Balm
I cannot believe how long my hair has grown. A variation of this style that I'd like to try would be to keep the front part flat instead of having the raised flat twists.
The beauty of this style is the back.

So, from this point on I am looking forward to more 'big girl' styles! Who knows, maybe even a curly set! I have been holding firm, longing to try a rod/curly set as I know that I will enjoy rockin' it!

Ta ta, Lovelies!
